Chairman of the Board of Guardian Industries speaks to Global Business Club

On Wednesday, September 7, Peter Walters, Chairman of the Board of Guardian Industries, kicked off the Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan’s season before an audience of approximate 70 local business executives and faculty, including many members of the CIBER advisory board and Dean Stephanie Lenway. During his presentation, Mr. Walters highlighted the opportunities, as well as the challenges, that international business presents, with a focus on the differences between joint ventures and, for example, wholly-owned factories. His experiences in Russia, India, and Venezuela were especially enlightening for the audience.
Prior to his Board duties, Mr. Walters was Group Vice President overseeing the company’s international business efforts, public and governmental affairs, environmental management, as well as the company’s procurement activities. Mr. Walters’ international business responsibilities encompassed all areas outside of the United States where the company has explored business opportunities. As highlighted during his presentation, Guardian has aggressively expanded its glass manufacturing business in recent years into Eastern Europe, South America and Asia.
