Bio

Dr. Robert Wiseman is the Eli Broad College of Business Legacy Fellow of Management. He earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Minnesota in 1992. Dr. Wiseman has expertise in Strategic Risk and Decision Making, Executive Compensation, and Corporate Governance. He has been widely published in scholarly journals in the areas of Management, and Organizational Science.
In addition to his numerous publications, Dr. Wiseman has served on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of High Technology Management Research. He has received several distinguished reviewer awards from the Academy of Management in recognition of his tireless efforts.
Dr. Wiseman’s research often allows him to work closely with individuals from Europe and around the world. In addition to corresponding with his research colleagues, Dr. Wiseman travels abroad to collect and analyze data gathered from research sites. This is not a simple endeavor because units of measurement and accounting practices will vary from country to country making reference and interpretation of data challenging. However, Dr. Wiseman has a great appreciation for the rewards of such ardent academic undertakings and the insight they provide him as well as his students. Dr. Wiseman’s undergraduate and graduate students walk away with a priceless understanding of modern business.
Dr. Wiseman has expertise in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany and has working knowledge of German and Spanish.
Professor Wiseman is the Eli Broad Legacy Fellow of Management. Prof. Wiseman earned his Ph.D. degree (1992) in Strategic Management from the University of Minnesota, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Before joining Michigan State University, he was an assistant professor at Arizona State University. His research on strategic risk taking and executive compensation has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies. Journal of Organizational Behavior. and Journal of Economic Behavior and Organizations. He has served on the editorial boads of the Academy of Management Journal, and The Journal of High Technology Management Research, and has won several distinguished reviewer awards from the Academy of Management.
